To jeszcze nie koniec lata / Summer is not over yet

Árpád Forgó - obiekty

Wystawa organizowana w ramach wydarzenia Warsaw By Art 2019

Árpád Forgó, wspó³czesny wêgierski artysta pojawi³ siê na warszawskiej scenie artystycznej w 2011 roku. "Summer is not over yet", jego trzecia solowa wystawa w Galerii Milano, prezentuje  najnowsze prace wykonane metod± formowania p³ótna, gdzie bazê tworzy konstrukcja i podzia³y siatki. Te trójwymiarowe obiekty uciele¶niaj± koncepcjê pustki przeciwstawionej ukszta³towanej formie przestrzennej. Stypendysta Fundacji Pollock-Krasner niedawno uczestniczy³ w programie studyjnym Fundacji Josefa i Anni Albers w USA.

Hungarian contemporary artist, Árpád Forgó, is present in the Warsaw art scene since 2011. "Summer is not over yet" is his third solo show at Milano Gallery, introducing recently made grid-based, shaped canvas works. These object-like spatial pieces embody the concept of the void opposed to the volume. Pollock-Krasner Foundation grantee, recently participated in the studio program of The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in the USA.

Árpád Forgó: Summer is not over yet

Hungarian mid-career contemporary artist, Árpád Forgó has been present in the Warsaw art scene since 2011. He had spent three month in the city as a Visegrad Artist Residency Program grantee, exhibited twice at the Hungarian Cultural Institute and at Milano Gallery. In Budapest, he had participated in Polish - Hungarian group shows at Platán Gallery, exhibition space of Polish Institute.

"Summer is not over yet" is his third solo show with Milano Gallery, introducing recently made grid-based, shaped canvas works.

Árpád Forgó is interested in experimental painting, in the question of broadening the interpretation of non-figurative panel painting. Basic elements of his works are the proportion, shape, colour and surface.

His revolving composition practice is building from pre-defined-shape, small-scale panels or modules. Led by intuition he builds works by rotating, constructing, deconstructing these modules until reaching an ideal composition, body of work.

At first, Forgó thinks without colours, he builds the form, and then experiments with colours and surfaces.

The exhibited object-like spatial pieces embody the concept of the void opposed to the volume.

Symmetry and asymmetry, rectangular and curved shapes, unfolded structure, relation of the whole and the segments are all important features of the grid set.

Titles of the pieces do not narrate, letters stand for initials of colours, and numbers refer to the number of units within the work.

Árpád was invited to present his works to the prestigious Anya Tish Gallery in Houston, he was selected into the Saatchi Art-curated Glorious Colour group exhibition at Griffin Gallery, London, and exhibited with exceptional artists, such as Edith Lundebrekke (Norway), Jerzy Grochocki (Poland), Riki Mijling (The Netherlands) and Susan Andrews (Australia). Currently his shaped canvas works are shown at Bauhaus100. Program for the Now ? Contemporary Viewpoints exhibition at Ludwig Museum, Budapest.

During the past ten years, artist-in-residence programs influenced a lot Árpád?s artistic concept. Select residencies include The Vermont Studio Center, USA; Sydney Non Objective Contemporary Art Projects, Australia; The Swatch Art Peace Hotel, Shanghai and the Mark Rothko Art Center, Latvia. In 2019, he spent two months at The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Connecticut, USA and he has been awarded the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant for 2019-2020.
